Using the Web to Save Grandma

March 7, 2012

Motivational

Noah Lamaide seems a typical 12 year old boy. He plays on the computer, skateboards, and loves his family. What may not be so obvious about Noah is that he is a hero. Noah saved his grandmother from losing her home.

Last year, Noah’s grandmother was told her house had been foreclosed on. Foreclosure means that the bank who loaned the money to buy the house is now taking the house back due to a person’s failure to pay the monthly mortgage payments. Not only would Noah’s grandmother be losing her home, but also the many foster children she takes into her home would also no longer have a place to live. Although, Noah’s grandmother tried to hide the foreclosure from Noah, Noah overheard a conversation and found out that his grandmother was losing her home.

What could he do? Noah certainly didn’t have the $10,000 needed to pay the bank so that his grandmother didn’t lose her home. All Noah really had was access to a laptop and an internet connection, so Noah started a website specifically for raising money. Noah created his donation website using Blackbaud Now (www.bbnow.com), which combines the power of quick and easy template-based website building with the power of PayPal, an online payment processing program. Noah named his website “Noah’s Dream Catcher Network” (http://dreamcatcher.bbnow.org/), and over time he raised the $10,000 needed to save his grandmother’s home!

Since raising the money to prevent foreclosure on his grandmother’s house, Noah has continued his Dream Catcher Network as a way to continue to help others. Take a look at his website to see how he is using the power of the internet and his technology skills to make a difference in peoples’ lives.

What do you think of Noah’s work? Is it hard to believe he’s making such an impact on the world to be only 12 years old? Are you surprised people generously donated to his cause so that his grandmother could keep her house? Would you consider building a donation website such as Noah’s? If so, what would your site support and how would you let people know about it?

I think that the surface is a great new thing that Microsoft is coming up with but on the other hand lots of people might say that they want to stay with the ipad because it was the original tablet and people all over the place are in love with it.I do not have a ipad but i do enjoy apple products such as the ipod touch.I also enjoy apple products because they are said to not get any viruses witch is great, and you could deffenitly get them on the surface made by Microsoft. I am excited for this product to come out and i want to give it a try before i really make up my mind.

I think that this article is very inspirational. Think that a 12 year old boy raised 10,000 dollars for his grandma, because her house was in foreclosure. He made a site were people could donate money to this cause. I think that doing this shows the world that anyone could make a difference no matter how old or big you are. I would want to make a site that people could donate too, and I think it is good thing. I hope to make a difference like he did one day.

I think it was really cool what Noah did for his Grandmother, she’s lucky to have a Grandson who would do that for her. I think its awesome that he cared enough about the situation to actually get up and do something about it, but still continue to help the world and go out of his way to get other people to participate in helping the world even after he has gotten what he needed. If I were going to make a website like his, it’d be to support kids with cancer and I’d let people know about it by telling hospitals, and other people to spread the word.

I think that this was very cool for this kid to do so much to help his Grandmother and also many other people that Noah is able to help with this website. This kid proved that anybody can do anything if they set their mind to it! He is 12 years old and has already done more and left more of an impact than most adults do in their whole lives. He raised $10,000 to help save the foster kids in he Grandma’s home and also his Grandma. This significant event is one of the reasons why adults push us so hard. Because they want us to not only succeed at our own lives but also to reach out and help others that need help as well. I’m very glad that Noah did this because now as us being kids maybe adults will stop looking down on us and instead start treating us as adults and making us work hard because we are the future of the US.

The fact that a 12 year old did this is amazing! I know I would have never thought of a website to help raise that kind of money. What Noah did was make a big impact on someones life, and help those children stay in a good home. Also, I think it was very nice and thoughtful that people would even go out of their way to help someone that was probably a complete stranger to them. Other people should look at Noah as an example of how to change the world and how to make a difference.

I think that it’s really cool that Noah helped his grandma that much and I think that it’s amazing that people were that generous. I also think that it’s remarkable that at 12 years old and a laptop computer that he can raise 10,000 dollars. It’s awesome that with just 10,000 dollars that he can save his grandma and all the kids that she fosters. I would consider making a website like what he built, but the cause would have to be really important to me just like saving his grandma’s house was really important to Noah.

I think that the thing Noah did was very unselfish and kind. He gave me an idea that I should start my own website to get money for my needs and others. It is a very good way to help others. This is so sweet! Noah didn’t only show love for his grandma, but the children who she fostered also. The fact that a little kid of his age could do this is amazing. The only question i have is how did he get people to visit the website? In other words, how did he advertise? I think that if I ever tried to do this, I would not be as successful as Noah was. He showed a lot of courage and he beat everyone’s expectations. I bet his grandma didn’t think that he could do it. No offense(:

Also if I were to have a website like this I would do it for the family’s of people who have family in the military and to help them get threw it by setting up charities and events for the family to go to and enjoy themselves. That is what i think of Noah’s website and him as a person.

No I don’t think it is hard to believe he’s making such a big impact because Ben D can do what he did and if people really wanted to do this they could just research and figure out how to do it to help a cause. I am not surprised people donated because he isn’t just losing a house he is losing a home to him and foster children. What I am surprised about is how he got the word out to people that he needed help because I don’t look up Noah’s Dream-catcher on Google regularly.

I think it this is a really interesting story. I would have never thought a boy my age could make such a huge impact. I think it must have taken Noah a great deal of time to make the website and obtain all the money. I have never seen a 12 yr old so committed into helping his family like that. it’s also not only his family he helped but all the foster children. Those kids hadn’t had a family and this is the closest to a family they have and to stripped by that its… heartbreaking. Noah gave them a chance to be with their foster friends and his grandma, who seem to be nice to the children. His family must have been proud of him… I’m not even his family and I am. He did something amazing by just making a website. Good job Noah. I also have an idea, my school could use this website to have donating for organizations. I think it would be fun.

I am stunned that a twelve-year-old boy would take so much interest in saving his grandmother’s home. Although, I am not surprised people helped this kid out because anyone that was this motivated into making a website to collect donations for his grandmother should be helped. Now that I have learned about building a donation website, if I ever need to get donations, I know where to start! I don’t know what the site would support, but if I made a site, I would let people know about it on like Facebook and I would tell all my friends and family.

I think that it must have taken Noah, a good bit of time to build a safe an efficient donation site. Also, i am a bit surprised that he got that much money from people on the web. If he got 10,000 dollars, and the amount is continuing to grow, then he had to have been pretty persuasive with what he said on his website, so that others would trust that the money is going to a good cause. If i were to make a website to help, i would make a cystic fibrosis website. The reason i would do t for this specific illness, is because i know that is hard to go through and it sticks with you for almost your whole life. There is this girl in fifth grade that i know, and she has cystic fibrosis. Almost every two or three weeks, she is back in the hospital. I feel really sorry for her because she practically lives in the hospital and she never gets to spend time with her friends at school. Not only is it hard on her, but on the whole family. She has four other siblings one older, and the rest younger. They don’t get as much time with there sister, and there parents because they are always having to go to a friends house since they cant stay at the hospital. I wouldn’t just be helping her though, i would also help all other people with this illness. So we can find a cure, and they can get on track to a normal life. It’s not that hard for me to think that a twelve year old made a difference because it happens everyday.

I would certainly do some like he did for people who have cancer, like my Granny who is under going chemo right now. It is getting hard for people to pay their bills, because of this rough economy. I would also do it for family’s who have recently lost someone, because a funeral and burial can be a bit pricey. I think this is a really cool thing that this guy did. He did all he could to help his grandma keep her house. And it is quite amazing how generous the people who read his read his website gave money. I think this is amazing and I think for a twelve year old that is quite awesome.

I think that if one of my family members where in trouble i would make a site to help them and then expand the site to help others if i could.

I think that this is really great that Noah did this for his grandmother. It shows that he really cares about her and he wanted to help her. If I had a website, I would create origami and sell it and them I would donate the money to help find a cure for cancer. I would let people know about it by making flyers and handing them out to people.

I think this is a really sad story. I think he did the right thing, and even if he didn’t make all the money, he still tried to make money and thats what counts. I’m glad they got the money and that she is helping other kids to.
